Many of the ongoing disputes between insureds and insurers about the nature and extent of coverage provided by certain business interruption insurance policies for losses suffered in the wake of the pandemic now seems destined to end up before the Courts or the Financial Ombudsman Service.
Now comes news that insurance premiums across many commercial lines are increasing in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic.
It is also seems that blanket exclusions for losses caused by infectious diseases, including Covid 19, are being applied to newly issued policies as the insurance (and reinsurance) sector looks to reduce its exposure to the crisis.
Anecdotal evidence suggests it is not just property damage / business interruption insurances that has been effected by these developments, but also less obvious lines such as directors’ and officers’ liability and professional indemnity insurances.
